We recommend that you purchase your medical insurance before you leave your country of origin. Otherwise, a waiting period of 48 - 72 hours (depending on insurer) will apply to benefits.
If you have already arrived and have been in Canada more than 30 days, you may not be eligible for Blue Cross Plans. However, you can still purchase TIC plans. Read more about this below.
You can purchase interim medical insurance for you and your family while you are waiting for your eligibility for the Ontario Hospital Insurance Plan (OHIP). Hospitals in Ontario Canada can cost $3,000 for 1 night ... plus doctors' fees. Don't leave yourself unprotected.
While we recommend that you purchase your medical insurance before you leave your country of origin, you still qualify for coverage after you are here. In this situation, illnesses that occur within the first 48 hours are not covered, however, accident coverage begins immediately.
There is no waiting period when coverage is purchased before you leave your country of origin AND you are covered while en route to Canada.
